Billy's POV
After a moment to catch our breaths, Joel grabbed my hand and led me outside the laundry room. As the front door squeaked open, he dropped my hand and smiled at me.
"Hi mom." He said happily.
"Joel, sweetie, how was school?" She said struggling with a few bags. Joel immediately went to help her with them.
"School was fine. Mom, this is Billy. He just moved here." Joel introduced me to his mom. She smiled.
"I'm Katie. It's nice to meet you. (a/n: i have no idea what her name is, so for teh fuck of it... it's Katie.) Will you be staying for dinner?" She asked with another smile. She made me feel very welcome.
"Uhh.." I stuttered. Should I? I looked to Joel and he nodded, so I graciously accepted.
"Thanks, I think I will. I just have to let my mom know." I said and she nodded.
"Phone's over there." She told me pointing to a cordless phone.
"Thanks." I said and began to dial my number. Thank god our phone was hooked up already. I didn't feel like going home to tell her becasue that means I might possibly have to see my dad.
"Hello?" Came a voice from the other end. Shit. It was dad. I quickly covered the speaker and whispered for Joel to come here.
"Please. It's my dad, can you just tell him that your a friend of mine and I'm eating dinner here?" I pleaded with him. He laughed and took the phone.
"Mr. Martin? This is Joel Madden, I'm a friend of Billy's. We were wondering if Billy could eat dinner at our house tonight." Joel said into the phone. He frowned and I raised my eyebrows. "He wants to talk to you." He whispered. I shook my head 'no' furiously, but he still handed me the phone.
"Yea?" I asked quietly.
"Billy? I think we need to talk--" He began, but I cut him off.
"Can I please talk to mom?" I said sternly.
He sighed. "Fine." A few moments later I heard my mom.
"William?" She asked.
"Mom, can I eat dinner at a friend's house?" I pleaded. She seemed tickled pink that I had a 'friend' I rolled my eyes.
"Of course, tell you friend I said thank you. What time will you be home?" She asked.
"I dunno, it won't be too late." I told her.
"Okay, have fun." She said and I said 'bye'. As soon as I hung up I frowned.
Joel took the phone and hung it up before leading me out of the kitchen.
"What's wrong? Can't you stay?" He asked.
"No, I can stay." I said. He gave me a look meaning 'well then what is it?'.
"It's just that now I still have to talk to him when I get home. He isn't just going to let this slide." I said looking down.
"Oh. Don't worry about it." He said rubbing my arm. All of a sudden my face lit up.
"Uh oh. I don't like that look" He said chuckling, while shaking his head.
"Do you think your mom would let you spend the night at a friend's house?" I said slyly, accenting the word 'friend'.
He smiled. "Possibly, why..?" He asked narrowing his eyes.
"Cause my father wouldn't talk to me about it if you're there, plus.... we'd have the whole night together." I said and he smiled.
"Yea my mom wouldn't mind if I stayed over." He said before leading me back into the kitchen for dinner.

Still Billy's POV
A few minutes through the meal Joel decided to ask his mom about sleeping over. His dad wasn't home yet. I assumed he was still at work.
"Mom, can I sleep over at Billy's house tonight? We're at the same bus stop so we can just go to school together tomorrow." He said. She raised her eyebrow.
"Fine, but if you're so much as 30 seconds late for school, school night sleep overs won't happen again." She said sternly.
"Thanks mom." He said smiling. After a few minutes of small talk a loud sound came from the living room. The front door slammed and then I heard a crash. I looked to Joel and he was frowning.
A few seconds later a man in a business suit came stumbling into the kitchen. His hair was messed up, his tie was un-knotted, and he was very obviously drunk.
"Woman, what did I tell you" He stopped and wiped his nose on his sleeve, "about parking in my spot?" He slurred.
"I'm sorry Dan, I didn't think that you would--" She began to apologize. What the hell was going on.
"Damn right. You didn't think. I might have to teach you a little lesson." He wobbled as he walked out of the room. Joel slammed his fork down on his plate, pushed his chair out, and quickly left the room.
"Billy, I'm really sorry you had to see that." Katie began.
"It's okay, my dad's not perfect, I'll be right back." I said quickly. "Excuse me." I added before running in the direction of Joel's room.
